Living A Goal-Driven Life
When we think of a life fully lived, John Goddard’s story often comes to mind. At the age of fifteen, he sat down and wrote a list of 127 life goals—ambitions that would carry him across continents, into the depths of the ocean, and even to the peaks of the world’s greatest mountains. His list included learning new languages, exploring the Nile River, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and reading the complete works of Shakespeare, Plato, and Aristotle. Over his lifetime, he achieved more than 100 of these goals.
Goddard’s life was a testament to intentional living. He wasn’t drifting through the years waiting for life to happen to him; he was awake, aware, and committed to creating experiences that would expand his mind, body, and spirit. His “life list” became not only a personal compass but also a symbol of the power of clarity and determination.

Two Goal-Driven Dreamers
Goddard’s influence continues to ripple outward, inspiring many who recognize the value of a life oriented around purpose. Consider two other modern dreamers who have adopted a similar spirit:
- Matthew Kelly, author of The Dream Manager, teaches that people thrive when they align daily choices with personal dreams. His philosophy echoes Goddard’s practice—dreams create direction, and direction shapes destiny.
- Chris Guillebeau, known for his quest to visit every country in the world, crafted his life around a similar principle of goal-driven exploration. His story reveals that goals are not simply achievements to check off, but experiences that expand identity and possibility.
Both Kelly and Guillebeau remind us that living with intention doesn’t just bring fulfillment—it awakens our authentic self.
“If you really know what you want out of life, it’s amazing how opportunities will come to enable you to carry them out.”

Living Your Own Goal-Driven Life
Within the framework of the Blueprint Method, goals take on a deeper significance. They aren’t just external milestones; they are mirrors of your inner truth. Your authentic self—your human blueprint—naturally seeks expression through personality, motivators, skills, and even the voids that call you into growth.
When you set goals aligned with your blueprint, you’re not chasing random achievements. You’re honoring the design of your soul. Like Goddard, you begin to live a life of clarity and expansion. Your list of goals—whether written or whispered quietly in the heart—becomes an evolving map of becoming.
Goddard’s 127 goals may have been daring and diverse, but they reflected his essence: curiosity, adventure, and the pursuit of wisdom. The challenge for each of us is not to replicate his list, but to discover our own—to live intentionally according to the blueprint of who we truly are.
Becoming Your True Self Through Your Goals
Your life’s blueprint is not static. It unfolds as you engage with it, as you dare to name your aspirations and move toward them. Goals, then, are not about control or achievement alone; they are about becoming more of yourself.
John Goddard showed us that a fifteen-year-old boy with a notebook could set in motion a life of extraordinary purpose. The question for us is: what would happen if we aligned our goals with the deepest truths of our blueprint?
Perhaps, like Goddard, we would discover that a goal-driven life is also a soul-driven one.
