Tuning Into The “Clairs”: Exploring the Language of Intuition
Throughout history, mystics, prophets, artists, and everyday people have spoken of an inner knowing — a sense of guidance beyond logic or reason. We’ve all had moments when something just feels right—or wrong—without any logical reason why. That subtle knowing, that inner nudge, is more than coincidence. It’s intuition speaking its ancient language through what many call the “clairs.” These are the intuitive senses that allow us to receive energetic and spiritual information beyond the physical five senses.
In many ways, the clairs represent the language of intuition — the ways our higher awareness speaks to us if we’re willing to listen.

The Seven Primary “Clairs”
Each clair aligns with a subtle sense through which intuition can be experienced. While most people naturally lean toward one or two dominant forms, all can be developed with awareness and practice.
1. Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing
This is perhaps the most well-known clair. Clairvoyance is the ability to perceive images or visions beyond the physical realm. You might see flashes of light, symbols, colors, or even scenes that offer insight. It’s not about predicting the future—it’s about perceiving energetic truth. Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, and even Carl Jung spoke of visions that guided their work and insights into the human psyche. People with clairvoyant tendencies may be highly visual, imaginative, and often receive intuitive nudges in the form of mental pictures, dreams, or daydreams.
How to tune in: Practice visualization meditations or close your eyes and notice the images or colors that arise spontaneously when focusing on a question.
2. Clairaudience – Clear Hearing
Clairaudients receive intuitive information through sound or words. It could be an inner voice, a phrase that suddenly comes to mind, or subtle tones that seem to arise from nowhere. These messages are often calm, loving, and direct—guiding you with clarity. Joan of Arc described hearing divine voices that guided her mission, an example of heightened clairaudience. Lee Harris hears the voices of his spirit guides, and can channel them, letting them use his body and voice to communicate directly with people.
How to tune in: Spend time in silence and listen deeply. Notice if you hear subtle words, phrases, or even song lyrics that seem to appear out of nowhere yet feel meaningful.
3. Clairsentience – Clear Feeling
Empaths often experience this form of intuition. It’s a deep sensitivity to energy—feeling the emotions, sensations, or pain of others as if it were your own. It can be overwhelming, but also deeply healing when you learn to discern what belongs to you and what doesn’t. Many renowned healers and counselors, including modern energy workers, are highly clairsentient and use this to guide their practice. Among them, Caroline Myss, a medical intuitive, exemplifies this gift through her ability to sense imbalances in others’ energy fields.
How to tune in: Pay attention to how your body reacts in different environments or around certain people. Trust the physical sensations or “gut feelings” that arise — they often hold truth before the mind can articulate it.
4. Claircognizance – Clear Knowing
This one feels like an instant download of information—a truth that arrives without explanation. You simply know. This intuitive gift often presents as gut instinct, divine insight, or creative genius. Famous scientists like Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein described sudden bursts of complete knowing, receiving complex ideas in their entirety before ever writing them down.
How to tune in: Journal regularly and observe when sudden ideas or answers come through without mental effort. Notice what happens when you follow them versus when you ignore them.
5. Clairalience – Clear Smelling
This lesser-known clair involves receiving intuitive messages through smell — such as the scent of roses when a loved one’s spirit is near, or the smell of smoke as a warning.
How to tune in: When a scent appears without a physical source, pause to sense its emotional or energetic meaning.
6. Clairgustance – Clear Tasting
Clairgustance involves intuitive messages through taste. For example, tasting salt when tuning into grief, or sweetness when sensing joy or love. Mediums often report this experience when connecting to spiritual energies.
How to tune in: Be mindful of spontaneous tastes that carry no physical explanation. Ask inwardly what the taste might represent symbolically or emotionally.
7. Clairintellect – Clear Understanding
This emerging concept describes an intuitive comprehension that bridges intellect and spirit — when information or meaning downloads as complete understanding rather than step-by-step reasoning. It’s often experienced during meditation or moments of creative flow when everything “just clicks.”
How to tune in: Cultivate stillness and curiosity. Allow understanding to arise naturally, without forcing analysis.
Awakening Your Own Intuitive Senses
Tuning into your clairs isn’t about acquiring supernatural powers — it’s about remembering your natural design. Every human blueprint includes intuitive awareness. Some experience it visually, others emotionally or somatically. The key is learning your personal intuitive language and strengthening it through consistent practice. Your clairs are like muscles—each one can be strengthened through awareness and practice. Here are some ways to begin tuning in:
Trust the Subtle.
The more you honor the whispers of your intuition, the stronger and clearer they become.
Quiet the Noise.
Create moments of stillness daily. Meditation, breathwork, or time in nature helps your intuitive senses become more pronounced.
Journal Your Impressions.
When a feeling, image, or word arises spontaneously, write it down. Over time, you’ll begin to notice patterns and learn your intuitive language.
Engage Your Body.
Notice where intuition speaks to you—perhaps a flutter in your chest, warmth in your hands, or a tightness in your gut. These are energetic cues guiding you toward or away from alignment.
Ask and Listen.
Before bed or during meditation, pose a question: “What do I need to know today?” The first gentle impression that follows—whether visual, auditory, or sensory—is your intuition answering.
Intuition as the Blueprint of Your Authentic Self
Every clair is a thread in the tapestry of your human blueprint—your unique way of sensing and interacting with the energetic world. When you learn to listen to your inner knowing, you begin to live in harmony with your purpose and truth.
Your intuition is not mystical or rare; it is your natural state of connection. The more you trust it, the more you’ll find that life itself begins to speak to you—in sights, sounds, feelings, and knowings that guide you home to yourself.
A Return to Subtle Awareness
We live in an age of sensory overload, yet intuition is found in the spaces between — in stillness, in presence, in trust. The clairs remind us that guidance is always available when we tune into the deeper frequencies of our own awareness.
Each clair is simply a different dialect of your soul’s language, inviting you to rediscover the wisdom that already lives within your human blueprint.
